Information obtained from Whois lookup shows the domain’s “”amazonethereum.com,” “amazoncryptocurrency.com” and “amazoncryptocurrencies.com” – were registered on Oct. 31 to Amazon Technologies, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc.

The phone numbers featured on the documents are linked to Amazon’s legal department.

Blockchain Daily reached out to the listed phone numbers but have not received a call back at this time.

One theory circulating the internet states that the company may be safeguarding its own brand.

In 2013, Amazon purchased “amazonbitcoin.com,” which redirects to Amazon’s main page.

Another hypothesis is that Amazon may be trying to circumvent misunderstanding between cryptocurrencies and Amazon Coin, a payment method made available in 2013 that was introduced by Amazon.
