Social media giant Facebook has recently listed five blockchain jobs on its careers section, including two roles for software engineers, a data scientist post, and a data engineer.

“We’re exploring areas of interest across all facets of blockchain technology. Our ultimate goal is to help millions of people with access to things they don’t have now — that could be things like equitable financial services, new ways to save, or new ways to share information,” the company stated.

All of the recent job openings are full-time positions at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Formally called the Facebook Blockchain Data Engineering team, the job listing for blockchain engineer describes the position as “intellectually-challenging”, which “will have massive global impact.”

Product Marketing Lead for the Facebook blockchain team, the most recent role, summaries the position as “exploring the opportunity the blockchain will bring.”

In May, the head Facebook’s messaging app Messenger, David Marcus announced the company was looking “to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”

Marcus became a board member of the popular U.S. cryptocurrency platform Coinbase in December of 2017.

According to Hired’s 2018 State of Salaries Report, the average earnings of a blockchain engineer have increased by 400 percent since2017, between $150,000 and $175,000 per year.

The report cited demand from large tech giants such as IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook as catalysts for the massive pay increase for specialists in the sector.
