TRON Announces New Decentralized Peer-to-Peer Storage System

SAN FRANCISCO — TRON, a leading blockchain platform, announced it plans to incorporate decentralized storage as another blockchain solution into the BitTorrent ecosystem.

The move is another step in TRON’s mission to create a borderless internet where privacy and ownership are more user-controlled.

BitTorrent, a leader in peer-to-peer protocols and products, will incorporate BitTorrent File System (BTFS) to allow users to receive and host storage on their computers with other individuals and businesses.

A variant of the open-source InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) protocol, BTFS began testing internally in late May and is the first step in creating a distributed web platform powered by blockchain technology.

“BTFS is a continuing step in our mission to create a decentralized internet that allows everyone to share in the wealth of web commerce,” said Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent.

“We’re creating a platform with BTFS, BitTorrent Speed blockchain integration and the BTT utility token to let users quickly and privately interact with each other around the world without a middleman or government intervention.”

A 2018 study from McKinsey Global Institute that analyzed 5,750 of the world’s largest private and public companies with revenue of $1 billion or more found that the top 1 percent of those companies captured 36 percent of the economic profit.

A decentralized internet would create a scenario where some of those profits, from ads sales, data collection and other means, are shared back to people who opt in to big companies’ business models.

BitTorrent plans to leverage its 100 million BitTorrent monthly active users, more than 1,000 TRON full nodes, 27 Super Representative nodes, and global TronGrid nodes, to become the world’s largest distributed storage and media sharing network.

Internal testing began this quarter, with full implementation expected by the end of the first quarter of 2020.

In Q3 2019, BTFS Mainnet will be launched for public access and will power all TRON decentralized applications that require a decentralized storage network.

Preliminary developer tools will be available and a few outstanding popular dApps built by the community will be running on the platform, including the upcoming TronMovie and BitTorrent Pix.

“Imagine chatting with your favorite athlete, becoming immersed in a music festival, or meeting new friends to share your passions – all by simply firing up the BitTorrent Live app,” said Justin Sun, CEO of BitTorrent.

“Our strong foundation of decentralized technology will allow us to fulfill our vision of a boundary-free internet while being at the forefront of a new content experience.”

BitTorrent Live will provide a social media platform for people to express their creativity and connect with others around the world through live video.

The service will allow for continuous live streaming anywhere users can get internet access.

Users initially will be able to search for subjects that interest them, and then engage directly with the broadcasters to give instantaneous feedback and likes.

In the coming months, BitTorrent Live also will incorporate blockchain technology that returns privacy and ownership to users while also enabling cryptocurrency to be used as a new payment option.

BitTorrent Live will be rolled out globally in phases. It will be available for beta testing download in Q2 2019.

CoinPayments Adds Support For BitTorrent Token (BTT)

Torrent client BitTorrent has announced their BitTorrent Token (BTT) is now supported by CoinPayments’ cryptocurrency payments gateway, according to an official press release.

In January, BitTorrent launched BTT in an effort to tokenize its ecosystem, approximately six months after the company was acquired by blockchain startup, TRON.

BitTorrent is collaborating with CoinPayments to facilitate support for bitcoin (BTC), Binance Coin (BNB), and TRON (TRX) payments for premium services.

Customers will be able to use BTT to purchase BitTorrent and µTorrent Pro subscriptions, which offers malware detection, HD streaming, and file conversion.

According to TRON founder and BitTorrent CEO, Justin Sun, the CoinPayments partnership will “make BitTorrent (BTT) liquid in the online marketplace before [the token] is fully integrated into our desktop and mobile products.”

Blockchain application “BitTorrent Speed” is scheduled for launch this summer, allowing customers to spend BTT for seeding and bandwidth for faster download times.

BitTorrent, first released in 2004, has stated their existing decentralized p2p network supports over 100 million users.

The roadmap for BitTorrent and TRON’s merger is often referred to as “Project Atlas,” and intends to construct a decentralized content distribution platform utilizing cryptocurrency.

BitTorrent Token Sells Out in First 20 Minutes on Binance Launchpad

A public sale of BitTorrent Tokens (BTT) sold out in the first 20 minutes.

TRON CEO Justin Sun, left, and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, right, during a recent visit to the UN.

59.8 billion BTT was sold, worth roughly $7.2 million.

BTT utilizes the Tron blockchain and was valued at $0.00012.

Binance users were able to purchase the token with both TRON (TRX) and Binance’s native exchange token, BNB.

A minimum purchase amount was set to 100,000 BTT.

This is BitTorrent’s first token in their 17-year history.

The file-sharing company was acquired by Tron last summer and a white paper for the new project was released earlier this month.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao stated the sale of BTT would of ended in just seconds if not for a technical issue.

Binance Announces BitTorrent (BTT) Token Sale on January 28

Binance Launchpad, the exclusive token launch platform of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, will launch the token sale of BitTorrent (BTT) on January 28, 2019, at 3 p.m. UTC.

This follows the platform’s announcement earlier this month about its launch of new blockchain projects.

As part of our continued support for transformative crypto and blockchain projects worldwide, Binance Launchpad is helping BitTorrent to launch BTT, not only by providing a launch platform but also by offering a full advisory service.

The token sale for BTT is being conducted in advance of BitTorrent’s plan to launch BitTorrent Speed, a new solution that connects and rewards users with BTT for sharing files in a peer-to-peer network, this summer.

BitTorrent Token Sale Details

The BitTorrent token sale will run in two simultaneous sessions: one for purchases using Binance Coin (BNB) and another for purchases using TRON (TRX).

In the BNB session, 23.76 billion BTT are for sale, while TRX session participants can get up to 35.64 billion BTT in total.

BTT will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Each BTT token will cost US$ 0.00012, although exact prices in BNB and TRX will be set on January 28. Each participant being able to get up to US $20,000 worth of BTT.

BitTorrent, a TRON-affiliated blockchain project for peer-to-peer file sharing, intends to “create the world’s largest blockchain application for speedy uploading and downloading of files” through BitTorrent Speed and the BTT token.

“More than 100 million users soon will have the opportunity to be part of a boundary-free internet that supports personal privacy and connection around the world,” said Tron Founder and BitTorrent CEO Justin Sun about BitTorrent Speed.

BitTorrent Speed is slated to launch this summer on the popular µTorrent Classic Windows client. It will become available for other BitTorrent users by late 2019.

BitTorrent: Increasing Crypto Adoption

The upcoming launch of BTT is not the first time that BitTorrent advanced cryptocurrency adoption worldwide. Since November 2018, the peer-to-peer sharing service has accepted payments of TRON, BNB, and Bitcoin (BTC) for users who want to purchase one-year subscriptions to BitTorrent and µTorrent products, including Ads Free and Pro for Windows.

BTT is the first of many blockchain projects to be featured on Binance Launchpad in the coming months. For more details about the token sale platform, upcoming launches and the process of each offering, visit Binance Launchpad now.
